If you want to know the future of an establishment, you should go to the game board, the place where plans are drawn out. It is here that you find out if a company will progress or if it will remain static.
Enough with the suspense; today we would like to share what the vision behind Main & Partners truly is. We are a Copenhagen-based start-up pursuing the grand goal to “push radical design and technological innovation to the world”. Now, while that might sound overly ambitious and far-fetched, company's Founder Alexander Main will attempt breaking down the steps for achieving just that. Welcome to Main's Master Plan.
Step 1: Become self-sufficient (VaaS – Visualization as a Service)
Because any great project can – and will eventually fail due to lack of funding, the first step in the plan is to become self-sufficient. This is accomplished by offering B2B consulting services with quick turnaround (low risk – steady growth). Although conservative, this setup gives the company the opportunity to grow at its own pace, while gaining the needed experience and building key relationships along the way.
The service of choice is ”photo-realistic 3D product visualizations”, offered to companies in the consumer electronics, automotive, lifestyle, health, and aerospace sectors. In effect, what we specialize in as a company has less to do with creating our own products but more with helping other companies fully realize their own potential and communicate their own ideas. On itself, visualization is a very exciting area, which we are highly passionate about. We already have the skills to visualize any product at the ultra-realistic level, regardless of if it's real or not (more about CG product visualizations can be read on: “The New Era of Product Photography is Not Photography”).
Step 2: Expand towards development (IaaS – Innovation as a Service)
Here is where things become more interesting. As our visualization business grows and we stabilize our pipeline, we will move on towards the development of innovative technological products (beginning at the conceptual level). Besides our world-class 3D visual artists, we will add industrial designers, engineers, researchers, technologists and futurologists, all committed to the creation and envisioning of the products of the future.
Little by little, our company will build its own “Skunkworks”, a design-innovation unit ready to develop and envision radical ideas, while engaging in consulting services.
Step 3: Become an Idea Incubator (Ventures)
At this stage, we will have graduated from being a start-up to a strong company engaging in higher-risk, but higher-rewarding activities, such as the creation/co-creation of products and launching of spinoff companies and joint-ventures. This will make us much more business and investment-focused while maintaining our exceptionally innovative and technological core.
We are proud to note that our company is currently at Stage 1, having reached a “self-sufficient” status 6 months after the founding. We have had the pleasure to work in partnership with MIT’s Hyperloop, visiting SpaceX (along with a brief greeting with Elon Musk), working hand-in-hand with numerous technology startups as well as large international corporations.
I admit that running a company is not an easy feat, as it involves crucial steps such as building a dream team, gaining and maintaining lucrative clients as well as working tirelessly to take the business to loftier heights. I am not unaware of these challenges, yet I will keep working towards building this vision, accomplishing one goal after another.
